We had the fun of two guests for our show - oceanographer and environmental documentary film mkaer Jean-Michel Cousteau talked with us by phone in advance of his appearance in Fort Collins as part of the BeetStreet Thought Leaders series. He discussed the monumental ocean preservation efforts by environmental groups, including his own http://www.oceanfutures.org", which resulted in President Bush setting aside over 300,000 square miles of ocean/island habitat in the south Pacific. He also spoke of the connection between the snow atop the Rocky Mountains and the health of the world's oceans, and what we all can do to help mitigate harmful affects of our use of fertilizers and other chemical compounds. He shared his overview of global climate change and its devastating effects on aquatic ecosystems.
And in-studio we talked with inventor Gary Turell who shared tips and foibles of tinkering for profit.

No Libel Laws in Science

The use of the English libel laws to silence critical discussion of medical practice and scientific evidence discourages debate, denies the public access to the full picture and encourages use of the courts to silence critics. The British Chiropractic Association has sued Simon Singh for libel. The scientific community would have preferred that it had defended its position about chiropractic through an open discussion in the medical literature or mainstream media.
