For the vast majority of population, post-baby weight loss is something that takes much longer than that. This means that you do not have to get discouraged if your body fails to get back in shape within those three months.

There is a healthy way to do things when it comes to post-baby weight loss. That is what you should aim for. The health of your baby should also be of the highest priority at all times.

Eat healthy

Whether you choose to breastfeed or not, you should still eat healthy. You have just given birth and undergone an energy-sapping experience. Your body needs to recover from that.

Foods that are full of essential nutrients like iron, proteins, fiber and everything else that makes up a balanced diet, should be part of your diet. Eat well, and eat enough. Do not attempt to starve yourself in order to lose weight. The health of your baby may suffer for it.

Fruits and vegetables should also form a significant part of your diet. Always drink at least eight glasses of water. If you are breastfeeding, that amount may rise to enhance milk production. Follow your doctor’s guidance on that issue. Also, remember always to take breakfast.


There is no doubt that your newborn will take a huge portion of your time in its first few months. However, do not be afraid to ask for help. If you cannot find time to rest, you will be stressed. That will not do anything for your weight loss. Instead, the stress will release hormones that lead to significant weight gain, something that you do not want to deal with.


Exercise is an essential part of any weight loss program. However, after you have just given birth, things can be quite tricky. Because of the strain that labor places on the body, you should avoid any exercises until your doctor gives permission to proceed. That may take six weeks or so, depending on what your birthing experience was like.

Even after you have received permission to proceed with your post-baby weight loss program, go easy on yourself. Low impact exercises that include stretching exercises, walking and jogging are great ways to start.

After a few more weeks, you can start incorporating other cardio exercises like cycling, rope jumping, and rowing.

It is always good for you to remember that it took you nine months to gain all that weight. It should take you a similar amount of time to get rid of it in a healthy manner. Post-baby weight loss, when done right will leave you feeling much better, both mentally and physically.
